Default Armor +5 Bow Grip - VS - Health +30 Bow Grip *added pic of my perfect bows :)*

using this as reference:
http://guildwarsguru.com/content/gam...nics-id674.php

i concluded that the difference in damage i would be taking would come out to an extra 7% per hit without a plus 5 armor... from an armor rating of 70 with droknors armor to an armor rating of 75 with the bow grip...

that means if i was fighting a boss that was giving me 100dmg per hit, it would become 107 with out the bow mod and 100 with it...now considering i dont even know of a boss that even does this much dmg, the point is in my opinion, the 7% extra dmg in reality only amounts to a few extra dmg per hit, literally just a few per hit, and in my opinion having a +30 bow grip would just be a better upgrade as it would take 5-10 hits with the armor upgrade on just to finally save that 30 hp.

ANyways these are just my finding and any input or proven technical info would be greatly appreciated...it just disturbs me that ppl say a 5k bow mod is better than a 100k bow mod, so i did some research and to me thats just not true.

anywas thanks again and looking forward to reading ur posts.

There was a thread a while ago discussing this same thing, but according to their findings the +5 armor WAS better than the +30 health. I think this is because you have to factor in damage over a period of time. In the short run 30 health will most likely help you best, but when you factor in things like healing, the +5 armor does become much more useful. The longer a fight lasts, the more important extra armor becomes over extra health.

im guessing this had somethign to do with pvp? does ne one have the link??

Edit:: well i thought about what u said, and typically rangers are NOT long term damage takers...they are the ones in the back of the group that will occasionaly take some major dmg but usually evade it and find a better missiling spot.. warriors on the other hard have tons of Hp and armor to withstand long heated battles, in whcih case armor +5 would be more ideal...

neways it was just some thougts i had.. ne one else?

Both are good upgrades imo...but +5 armor is more bang for the buck (it's not expensive)

It's better to protect the health you already have rather then just have an extra 30 that gets beaten out of you. It makes it easier for monks to heal you and all their healing spells are more effective since each of them will heal a higher percentage of your maximum health.

The +30hp ones just go for so much because people can see the effect of it as soon as they slap it on their weapon. The effects of +5 are much less obvious in the short run.

Go with the situation. If you can find the same bow, get a +7 physical and +7 elemental and switch when needed.

All I can say is that switching from a Fortitude mod to my +7 vs. physical has resulted in a much happier tank.

Having a +hp mod is better when dealing with DoT (damage over time) things such as poison, remember. They ignore armor entirely.

thats a good idea ractoh

but i dont kno if ill be able to find another 15/50, and not sure if i have the money to spend on one right now

so far im thinking icy horn bow of defense , and vampiric half moon of fortitude, with all perfects 15/50, ill switch accordingly, then for my backup recurve..... still not sure about what to put on that (+20 % dmg under 50%)

i just added my bow set for u guys to check out ... not sure what to do with the recurve but very proud of the others

ABOUT THE HORN BOW: i put the +5 defense up there because i had one from a salv, but im leaving the option open to maybe changin it out for a +20 %longer enchantment if i ever change my secondary to elementalist...(conjure) but the only thing about that is i have to put points into my conjure attribute just for it to do dmg

so for now the +5 will do fine i think..

any ideas on the recurve?

I'm neither a big fan of (1) perma-bumping your thread and (2) the whole "bumpizzle" nonsense form of communicating, but I'll respond anyway. First, as has been pointed out in numerous threads (use the search function using key terms "bow*" and "upgrad*" or "mod*"), defense is better than fortitude in almost every situation (severe damage over time attacks or times when you are running a lot of superior runes on your armor are exceptions). As to your bow selection, I like the max shortbow/5:1 vamp combo, but I'm curious why you would use anything else (other than a longbow for pulling). The other types of bows besides short/halfmoon have inferior rate of fire/range stats. You can get a collector shortbow with max+15>50, 9 req in the south shiverpeaks. If you aren't that far yet or don't want to take the time to get one, I have some I've been selling for around 1K (to account for the annoying slog to reach the collector). They're not sexy, but no gold bow will have better stats (15>50 is max). You can add a zealous string and +5 defense grip to one for a total of less than 10K for the whole package. Customize it and you gain an extra 20% damage (it's not like you're going to find anything better that would make you want to abandon that one). That's a deal that's tough to beat. My characters (especially my ranger) use almost exclusively collector items. They may not be flashy and they have blue instead of gold letters in their names, but they have the best stats available and are a fraction of the cost of standard items.

Personally I also prefer armor upgrade. But the thinking behind buying hp upgrade is this: with hp+30 and a superior vigor, you can add a superior rune to one of your primary attribute with no reduction to your health. Now that hp+30 is not just about health anymore, it's indirectly related to your damage potential. I think that's why fortitude upgrade is so popular.
